Neuromodulation

Neuromodulation is the treatment of chronic pain by implanting a neurostimulator in the spinal canal. This consists of two parts: first, electrodes are placed which deliver a targeted electrical current to the point in the central nervous system where the pain signals are entering. Second, a battery is then implanted under the skin. As this is are surgical procedures, we do this treatment in collaboration with the Department of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital of Zurich (USZ).

Painful polyneuropathy is a common condition caused by damage to the peripheral nerves and manifests itself in various forms and degrees of severity. It usually occurs as a result of underlying diseases such as diabetes, vitamin deficiency or infections, but autoimmune diseases or toxic influences can also contribute. If left untreated, painful polyneuropathy often leads to a considerable reduction in quality of life. Early diagnosis and targeted treatment are crucial to alleviate pain and prevent further nerve damage.
