Even after a carefully planned and surgically correctly performed back operation, it can happen that persistent chronic back pain remains. This back pain is often accompanied by radiation to the legs. This condition is commonly known as “persistent spinal pain syndrome” or PSPS (formerly also “Failed Back Surgery Syndrome”, FBSS).

At the Institute for Interventional Pain Medicine Zurich (IISZ), we perform a variety of procedures—not all of which require fasting. Fasting means refraining from eating or drinking for a set period of time. Your treatment team will explicitly inform you if you need to fast before your procedure. This is primarily required for interventions involving sedation (calming medication) or local anesthesia, to ensure your safety.
